Our Cofounder, Sanford J. Garrett; M&A Advisor and Partner at ONE to ONE Corporate Finance. An entrepreneur who pioneered vendor finance for the global semiconductor industry. He helped shape the venture debt market in the US, with a leading market share.
Sandy founded The Garrett Group in 1985 for the purpose of providing asset-based, debt capital to emerging companies as an alternative to more expensive venture-based, equity capital. His intent was to grow with emerging equipment vendors and use the power of lease structuring to provide a proactive sales tool to close incremental business and reduce the time to close by resolving most, if not all, non-technical issues blocking the successful acquisition of equipment by end-users. Subsequently, The Garrett Group focused predominantly on financing programs for later-stage semiconductor equipment suppliers, like KLA-Tencor, coming off substantial success in creating and managing Credence Capital Corporation, the captive financing affiliate of Credence Systems.
Previously, Sandy was Vice President of Paine Webber (now UBS PaineWebber), a Chartered Financial Analyst, and Chief Credit Officer for the Technology Investment Banking Group, qualifying and valuing technology companies for private placements, IPOs, and subsequent financings. Previously, as a Senior Technology Analyst there and at Sanford C. Bernstein and Company (now part of Alliance Bernstein), he analyzed large capitalization and early-stage technology companies, working with their managements and with PaineWebber’s investment banking and venture capital groups to provide them with equity capital as well as advising institutional investors in regard to technology investments.
Upon graduating from Columbia in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Research, a department he helped create; Sandy worked at IBM in software development, creating the first large-scale computer-controlled building and facility environmental control system. Later he used minicomputers to control and optimize the backend semiconductor manufacturing processes at IBM. He received a Master of Science Degree in Systems and Information Science from Syracuse University while at IBM.
